> HYDROPOWER COMPLEX:
CANAL HEAD POWERHOUSE

The CHPH is a surface power station in a Saddle Dam on the right bank at the fringe of the first balancing storage pond with installed capacity of 250 MW (5 units of 50 MW each), deploying Kaplan turbines. The Civil and Electrical works of Canal Head Power House were completed in all respect in January 1998; however, power could only be generated after the dam had attained the height of EL 110.64 m. All the five units of CHPH (1x50 MW) have been commissioned successfully during August 2004 to December 2004.

RIVER BED POWERHOUSE

The River Bed Power House (RBPH) is an underground power station on the right bank of river located about 165 m downstream of the Dam. The underground RBPH has 6 units of 200 MW each, deploying Francis type reversible turbines. The civil works of the RBPH commenced in July 1987. The civil works of RBPH were scheduled for completion by 1995 but due to development of distress zone in walls of the power house cavern, further excavation was stopped and the affected zones were treated. The civil works of RBPH was also suspended for some time, due to delay in supply of embedded parts of Turbine-Generator (TG) sets. However the issue of the procurement of TG sets was settled with M/s. Sumitomo Corporation (Japan), and with the commencement of supply of equipment, the balance excavation work in the powerhouse cavern started in June 1999. As per Revised Implementation Schedule (RIS) of June 2002 approved by the SSCAC in its 69th meeting held on 29th July 2003, the milestone dates for various activities were fixed as per Table given below:

SWITCH YARDS

The work of erection of 220 KV Switchyard structure for the Canal Head Powerhouse is completed in all respect. Building for the main 400 KV switchyard has also been completed. Contract for procurement of 400 KV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) equipment was signed with M/S GEC Alsthom (France) in August 1992. Erection of all GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) bays and GIB (Gas Insulated Busbar) bays is completed including its wiring, gas filling, pre-commissioning H.V. testing and die-electric testing. Final commissioning shall be done along with commissioning of Turbine Generator Sets.

TRANSMISSION LINES

For transmission of the power generated by two power houses of Sardar Sarovar Project six transmission lines have been constructed. The works of SSP- Maharashtra (Dule) borderline, SSP- Madhya Pradesh (Nagda) boarder line and SSP- Kasor & Asoj (Gujarat) have been carried out by Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB).
